SUMMARY:Jukebox: Porch Songs - Americana Roots - Barre
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets \nAs spring arrives\, we bring you a special\, intimate Jukebox string quartet program that invites listeners onto the proverbial porch—where music flows freely\, stories are shared\, and a sense of place is felt in every note. Porch Songs honors the legacy of American folk traditions and the communal spirit that sustains them.   \nFeaturing Pulitzer Prize-winner Jennifer Higdon’s exploration of her Southern roots in Southern Harmony\, the Appalachian-infused stylings of fiddler and composer Mark O’Connor and brand new arrangements of music by bluegrass legend Matt Flinner alongside many more. This program celebrates the magical place where classical and folk traditions meet.  \nThis Jukebox tour will be accompanied by an interactive audio and visual display of Vermont folk heritage\, steeped in song selections from the Helen Hartness Flanders Ballad Collection at Middlebury College. We are also grateful for the assistance of the Henry Sheldon Museum and the Vermont Folklife Center. These displays are curated by Lyn Lauffer. \nBrooke Quiggins-Saulnier and Joana Genova\, violin; Stefanie Taylor\, viola; and John Dunlop\, cello. Hosted and curated by Matt LaRocca. \nVSO thanks the generosity of our Barre Jukebox sponsors Northfield Savings Bank\, and Bill Herbst.

SUMMARY:VSO at the Flynn: Love Notes
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets \nOn Valentine’s Day\, VSO welcomes Grammy Award-winning violinist Jennifer Koh to perform Philip Glass’ Violin Concerto No. 1 in an eclectic concert mixing American and Romantic music. A student of VSO’s fourth music director Jaime Laredo\, Koh is a hugely in-demand performer of contemporary violin repertoire with premieres of more than 100 works composed especially for her. Glass’ Violin Concerto No. 1\, one of the composer’s most often performed works\, is preceded by Frank Zappa’s fast-paced\, riveting piece from his 1993 album The Yellow Shark. For the romantic at heart\, lush orchestral suites from Georges Bizet’s Carmen and music by 19th C. French composer Augusta Holmès complete the afternoon concert. \nThe concert begins at 3:00 p.m. and is preceded at 2:00 p.m. by Musically Speaking\, a free pre-concert discussion hosted by Vermont Public’s Helen Lyons with Music Director Andrew Crust\, that provides entertaining insight into the evening’s program. \nTake Advantage of Special Overnight Rates! \nEnjoy the rest of your evening in Burlington with a stay at Courtyard by Marriot Burlington Harbor. Our friends at Courtyard Marriott have extended a special offer for Love Notes ticket holders – just contact Dana Carver for your exclusive rate of $109 (taxes and fees included) for your Valentine’s evening stay.  \n  \n  \nPROGRAM \nAndrew Crust\, conductor\nJennifer Koh\, violin \nFrank Zappa (arr.
