SUMMARY:Jukebox: The Sound of Science in St. Johnsbury
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets \n  \nIn the Sound of Science\, Jukebox explores the intersection of music\, science and data. The evening features compositions inspired and informed by scientific principles. We marvel at the structure behind Bach’s counterpoint\, see how one composer translates the concept of the red-shift (the evidence behind the ever-expanding universe) into music\, and delve just a little bit into science fiction. In addition\, we see how data can be directly interpreted into music and sound. Temperature data is translated into musical notes in Daniel Crawfords brilliant Planetary Bands\, the sound of a glacier melting is the bedrock of Sophie Kastner’s new work\, data received from a buoy in Lake Champlain provides the director of a new piece by Vermont Composer Peter Hamlin\, and more! \nEach concert will include a free workshop where participants can create music and sound out of their own data through a free online tool developed by Kinetek. \nBrooke Quiggins Saulnier and Jane Kittredge\, violin\nStefanie Taylor\, viola\nJohn Dunlop\, cello\nMatt LaRocca\, host and curator \nMusic from:\nMark Mellits\nLarry Groupé\nJ.S. Bach\nAlexander Borodin\nSophie Kastner\nPeter Hamlin\nDaniel Crawford\nMatt LaRocca\nRadiohead \nThis concert in St. Johnsbury is generously supported by Community National Bank\, and is in partnership with Catamount Arts.

SUMMARY:VSO Made in Vermont with Kat Wright - Bellows Falls
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS HERE \n\n\nCurated and conducted by Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s Artistic Advisor and Project Conductor Matt LaRocca\, the 2023 Made in Vermont series highlights a guest artist from our state’s vibrant indie\, folk\, and rock scene. The VSO’s chamber orchestra performs musical favorites by Henry Purcell and Manuel De Falla and welcomes a special guest to the stage: Vermont’s own sensational soul singer Kat Wright. The program also features new works by two Vermont composers\, Kyle Saulnier and Erik Nielsen. Saulnier is a unique and innovative composer whose style fuses modern orchestral techniques with jazz and industrial rock\, and Nielsen’s new piece for string orchestra is a tribute to Pete Sutherland\, a friend and mentor as well as a Vermont legend. \n“Wright has that special balance of power and grace in her voice that can shimmer and float to the top…” – Red Line Roots \nWhile you’ll still hear the Bonnie Raitt and Amy Winehouse influences in her music\, echoes of Brandi Carlisle and Norah Jones are newly present in Kat’s performances\, as well.
