SUMMARY:Jukebox: Strength and Hope - Bennington
DESCRIPTION:Reserve Tickets \nTHIS CONCERT IS SOLD OUT \nMusic as strength. Music as hope. Music as change.  \nThroughout history\, composers have turned to music in the face of hardship—to find light in darkness\, to hold fast to truth\, to rise up\, and to offer comfort\, courage\, and strength. In this free Jukebox concert\, we look to those composers who have created music for hope\, resistance\, and change—music composed in prison camps\, music that calls out injustice\, music that shouts dissent\, music that is charged with the need to speak out and be heard. In these challenging times\, this special concert brings us together to offer a sense of optimism borne of music and community. \nBrooke Quiggins-Saulnier and Joana Genova\, violin; Stefanie Taylor\, viola; and John Dunlop\, cello. Hosted and curated by Matt LaRocca. \nThis concert is provided free of charge; please pre-register attendance at the above link. \n  \nPROGRAM \nRussell Peck – Don’t Tread on Me \nLudwig van Beethoven – String Quartet in C minor\, Op. 18\, No. 4 – Movement I \nEthel Smyth – String Quartet in E minor \nGideon Klein – Trio \nDmitri Shostakovich: String Quartet No. 8 in C minor\, Op. 110 \nFrank Horvat – The Thailand HRDs \nMilad Yousufi – Refugee \nZoltan Almashi – Mariupol \nWoody Guthrie – This Land is Your Land \n  \nIn partnership with Bennington College\, and Taconic Music. Sponsored by Karl Brosch\, in memory of Ralph Thomas. \n

SUMMARY:Jukebox in Bennington
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets Here\n\nBrooklyn-based composer and guitarist Kaki King\, hailed by Rolling Stone as “a genre unto herself” and one of the publication’s “New Guitar Gods\,” joins the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s Jukebox String Quartet on October 14 in Bennington. With nine albums released over the past 14 years\, Kaki’s eclectic guitar voice has been heard live on every continent over the course of multiple world tours\, and at variety of prestigious arts centers\, including the Kennedy Center\, Lincoln Center\, MoMA\, LACMA\, and The Met. Her music for numerous film and TV soundtracks is acclaimed\, including “August Rush” and Sean Penn’s “Into the Wild\,” for which she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score. \n“I’m a guitar player. Classical ain’t what it used to be\, the repertoire has changed radically\, people are so much more open to playing contemporary compositions these days. It isn’t this sort of pissing contest that perhaps it used to be. The field of players out there has changed radically over the last few years\, and it’s so cool!” she said. \nOpening its sixth season with Kaki\, the VSO’s Jukebox string quartet performance includes music composed by Bryce Dessner (guitarist for The National)\, Joachim Rodrigo\, Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR)\, and more\, curated by Artistic Advisor and Project Conductor Matt LaRocca. \nThe performance will be at The Deane Carriage Barn at Bennington College. This concert is a collaborative production between VSO Jukebox and the Deane Carriage Barn Concert series. \nSingle tickets on a sliding scale starting at $10. \n  \nSponsored by Northfield Savings Bank Innovation Fund
