SUMMARY:David M. Wilson Farmers' Night with the VSO Chorus
DESCRIPTION:The annual free community concert this season features selections from Mozart’s Symphony No. 1 in E-flat Major\, Debussy’s Gymnopedies\, Ravel’s Bolero\, and Frostiana\, a setting of Robert Frost’s poems in a seven-movement suite of choral art songs with chamber orchestra by Randall Thompson. The evening also features the VSO Chorus\, a composition by Music-COMP student\, Louis Napolitan\, and is conducted by VSO Music Director Andrew Crust. \nDoors are at 7:00pm\, concert begins at 7:30pm. \nWe are thankful for funds held at Maple Capital Management: the David M. Wilson Memorial Fund which supports this annual event\, and the Robert De Cormier Endowed Fund for its underwriting of the VSO Chorus in this concert\, as well as generous donors Theodore Marcy & Kimberly Hornung-Marcy. \nThis concert is also supported by Courtyard Marriott Burlington Harbor.

SUMMARY:David M. Wilson Farmers' Night with Damascus Kafumbe
DESCRIPTION:Now in its 90th anniversary season\, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra returns to the state capital for its annual Farmers’ Night event. Music Director Andrew Crust and VSO’s chamber orchestra present Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 1 in C Major in a concert with guest artist Damascus Kafumbe. The evening features Bach’s suite interwoven with percussion and string instrument performances by Kafumbe\, Middlebury College’s Professor of International Studies\, Professor of Music\, and Director of Middlebury African Music and Dance Ensemble. VSO’s Farmers’ Night traditions include the premiere of a Music-COMP student composition; for 2025\, the student is Mount Mansfield UHS senior Eleanor Freebern.  \nThis concert is free and open to the public; no tickets required. \nDoors are at 7:00pm\, concert begins at 7:30pm. \nThis concert is generously supported by the David M. Wilson Memorial Endowment Fund\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, Maple Capital Management\, TD Bank Foundation\, and MMR LLC. \n                \n

M Wilson Memorial Farmers’ Night Concert is conducted by Director of Orchestra and Associate Professor of Music at the University of Vermont\, Dr. Yutaka Kono. Music includes Rossini’s La Scala di Seta Overture\, Francis Johnson’s Cotillions\, Lauren Bernofsky’s Abendstern\, Haydn’s Symphony No. 8\, “Le Soir” and a piece by West Rutland High School graduate Drew Frankenberg via Music-COMP. \nTicketing/registration is not required for this open-to-the-public performance. \nThis concert is made possible through funding support from the David M Wilson Memorial Fund\, and the State of Vermont.
