Singing with the Symphony

The Vermont Symphony Orchestra is home to a 100-member volunteer chorus, founded in 1993 by VSOC Conductor Emeritus, Robert De Cormier. The first performance, Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, took place in May 1994. Since then, the chorus has performed works from the classical, popular, folk, and contemporary repertoires in venues around the state. Our choral musicians, like those in the orchestra, travel from far and wide to be a part of this great organization. They are motivated by their love of choral music, the camaraderie of singing together, and ultimately, by the thrill of performing onstage with the orchestra.

The Vermont Symphony Orchestra Chorus, under the direction of José Daniel Flores-Caraballo, always welcomes new members in all voice ranges. Those interested in auditioning for the chorus, or needing more information, should be in touch with Chorus Coordinator Hannah Hansen at hannah@vso.org.

2026/27 SEASON INFORMATION FOR VSO CHORUS

Fall 2026: Auditions for new members and any previous members who have been away from the group for two years or more. Location and date TBC.

Concerts: The VSO Chorus will perform Holiday Pops on December 4, 5, and 6, 2026 (full chorus).

HOLIDAY POPS 2026
December 4, 2026 at The Paramount Theatre, Rutland (7:30 pm)
December 5, 2026 at Barre Opera House, Barre (7:30 pm)
December 6, 2026 at The Flynn, Burlington (3:00 pm)

Repertoire includes selections from Handel’s Messiah, Margaret Bonds’ The Ballad of the Brown King, Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride and Christmas Festival Overture, misc. carols
Choral rehearsals 1:30-4:30pm:  October 24, November 7, November 14, November 21
No rehearsals: October 31, November 28
Dress rehearsal with orchestra: afternoon of December 4, followed by evening concert

INFO FOR PROSPECTIVE SINGERS

We welcome all interested singers to schedule a vocal assessment (audition) to be considered for the upcoming season.  Auditions are generally held in the fall and include an assessment of your vocal range, plus a short prepared choral excerpt.
